(The approach)
Creating an elevated café brand where people come for the coffee and stay for the mission.
Liminal Coffee opened inside Lighthouse Mission with a vision that extended far beyond coffee.
Every purchase directly supports the work of the mission, with a vision for the café to play a meaningful role in Lighthouse Mission’s workforce development efforts — creating life-altering internship opportunities for residents moving through recovery and restoration programs.
But for that vision to succeed, the brand needed to stand on its own. Liminal needed to feel credible, thoughtful, and elevated enough to compete with the best coffee shops in the area while still carrying the deeper purpose behind it.


(The opportunity)
Defining a brand that holds both craft and cause.
We partnered with the Lighthouse Mission team to clarify who Liminal Coffee was for, how it should show up in the community, and what would make the experience distinct.
Together, we shaped a positioning strategy centered around a simple but important idea: people may discover the mission through the coffee, but they need to return because the experience genuinely stands on its own.
That meant building a brand that felt modern, intentional, and design-forward while still rooted in warmth, humanity, and purpose.


(The solution)
Building a brand experience designed for connection.
We created the visual identity and full identity system for Liminal Coffee, establishing a brand that felt refined, welcoming, and quietly confident.
Beyond the core identity, we consulted on the broader café experience and developed a cohesive system across signage, menu boards, merchandise, and environmental applications to make sure every touchpoint felt intentional and unified. We wanted to make sure the coffee shop felt at home in a revived Old Town district and even help set the standard for new businesses moving into that area.
The result was a coffee shop brand capable of standing on its own within the local coffee community while also creating new visibility and support for the work happening inside Lighthouse Mission every day.
